What do you need to know about legal pitfalls when applying for an American-issued visa in Canada?
It’s a big question that could cost you dearly in your application for an E-visa.
Here’s what you need know to help you make the best of the situation.
1.
What are the types of visas you can apply for?
You can apply as an employee, a student, a business associate, or a professional, but only one of those visas can be used to enter Canada.
You need to apply for both an E and B visa if you’re a professional or employee of a Canadian corporation or association.
If you’re not a resident of Canada, you need a Canadian passport or a permanent resident card to enter the country.
Your application must include a full copy of your Canadian passport, and your fingerprints must be submitted for identification.
2.
How do I apply for an employment visa?
To get a work visa in or to work in the United States, you’ll need to provide a job offer and pay a fee.
A business associate visa is not valid for employment purposes, and you won’t be able to get a business visa for a Canadian company.
You’ll need a work permit, which you can get from the Canadian consular officer.
Your work permit must be valid for at least three years and you must also pay $2,000 to the consular office to complete your work permit application.
You also have to provide documents, including proof of residency and employment authorization documents, if you need them.
3.
What types of jobs are available in Canada and what types of employers can I apply to?
Canada has a number of different kinds of jobs available, including jobs that require a bachelor’s degree or higher, that are in fields like healthcare, law, agriculture, engineering, and the arts.
Some jobs can be part-time, so you’ll be able apply for a job in the U.S. with a shorter time frame.
Other jobs may be permanent, meaning you’ll have to stay in the country until you’re able to return to the U, or until you’ve been in the business for 10 years.
There are also temporary work permits that are available to temporary foreign workers who need to work on short-term projects and to work from home.
You may be able get a temporary permit in Canada as long as you’re willing to apply, and pay your fees, if applicable.
You must also get a Canadian work permit or a Canadian permanent resident certificate, which is a temporary document issued by Canada that allows you to stay for up to 12 months in the same country as your employer.
4.
What do I need to do if I get a job interview at a Canadian workplace?
The first step is to get an interview.
You will need to show proof of employment, your work authorization document, and a letter from your employer certifying that you have the necessary skills and qualifications to do the job.
If your employer asks you to provide proof of citizenship or permanent residency, you should show that document.
Then you’ll also need to submit a resume and a personal statement, if requested.
Then, you will be interviewed by the employer, who will determine whether you are qualified for the job and whether they want you to work for them.
After that, you can submit a written statement to your employer, which will be reviewed by the Consulate.
If the employer does not find you suitable for the position, they can ask you to reapply.
After you have received the job offer, you must pay $500 to the Consular office for your job application fee.
5.
When can I begin my work visa application?
It can take months to complete a visa application, so if you want to work here, you might have to wait at least a year before you’re allowed to enter.
But the wait is worth it, because the work permit will give you a chance to become a Canadian citizen.
The Consulate has issued a guidebook called the Canadian Employment Visa Handbook to help Canadians prepare for the Canadian Work Permit process.
6.
How long will it take for my visa application to be processed?
It usually takes up to three months to get your application processed.
If it takes longer, you could have to pay fees for your application.
However, it’s important to remember that you may need to wait up to five months to apply.
The waiting period can be longer if you have a pending application.
There’s also a waiting period for applicants who are already in the process of applying for work permits, or for applicants applying for permanent residency.
7.
What if I don’t apply?
If you don’t want to wait for an application to complete, you may want to apply before you get to the embassy in Ottawa.
The Embassy of Canada will help you do that.
If, however, you’re still waiting, you are welcome to apply online.
It will take you about 30 minutes
