Kerala has banned public service workers from working outside the home and has asked the Supreme Court to set aside a court order that ruled the state’s ban on private sector employment was unconstitutional.
The Kerala government, which had sought a stay on the ban on August 23, appealed to the Supreme Courts bench on Monday after a three-judge bench upheld the ban by the Bombay High Court on August 31.
The Bombay High court had sought stay on a three day ban imposed by the Kerala government on public sector employees who had taken part in protests against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s move to close public sector colleges.
Kerala has been facing a severe power shortage since the power failure affected more than 5 lakh people in the state.
The government had sought to restrict the flow of electricity to some areas of the state, but a court had blocked the move.
